QED

This weekend has been a weekend of conversations, memories and some serious thinking. It didn't just rain, it poured - in the best sense of the term. Some wonderful things happened - as sweet and touching as they were unexpected. And, as I was telling a friend a little while ago, this is probably the Universe telling me that it isn't such a bad life yet. :)

Deep breath. Broad grin. Big whoop and jump. Yay! :)

24

Hmm. Decisive, completely sorted out and raring to go.

One hundred per cent. Well, almost. Rounding-off is a scientific mathematical practice.
(But didn't Lorenz say it's responsible for the butterfly effect?)

Oh wait, this is my 125th post.

Now I'm happy. :)

The Last Thought Experiment

This is just to say goodbye. For now, that is.

This blog isn't only a hobby or a record of all my thought experiments - it is a best friend of sorts, my own little window to the world, and one of my biggest addictions. I depend upon it in a way that I depend upon very few people or things. And right now, I need some time off. There are difficult decisions that I have been putting off for a while now, citing real and imaginary (mostly imaginary) reasons to myself. I have to tell myself some home truths; chide, love and coax myself into doing some things. Not sure exactly what this entails, and it doesn’t look easy from where I stand...but I have to get all this out of the way so that I can work towards a long-cherished dream with a clutter-free mind. It may not all be sunshine and oranges - but it will get me halfway there. :) If there is the option - however remote - of recourse to my blog, I'll never get around to thinking and doing all that I must necessarily think and do. Even if I do, it won't be the best I'm capable of. Some things are meant for us to handle on our own, no matter how many people or things we can fall back on.

So I must disappear backstage for some time. I will come back, of course...but I have no idea how long I will be gone. I could be back tomorrow; I could show up next in June. It feels imperative to say goodbye, because I know that there's more than a fair chance I won't be back here anytime soon.

For now, this is my last thought experiment.

Good morning, World! What's for breakfast?

Just yesterday, or so it seems, I was writing about the beautiful ease and grace with which 2008 gave way to 2009. It wasn't so long ago - or wasn't it? - that I was scoring the '8' out of 2008 and replacing it with a '9' on each assignment and page of notes, as I got used to it being year 2009. Was it really all of 365 days ago that I was contemplating an entirely new year ahead?

It sure doesn't feel that way!

But here we are. 2010 is upon us.

Happy New Year, World!
I've had several reasons to celebrate, big and small...2009 was, on the whole, umm, interesting; and, in all fairness and honesty, pretty good to me. It had its ups and downs, of course - for me, for those I love, and for all of us here on the planet...but, good or could-have-been-better, it has bowed itself out and ushered in a whole new 12 months...and that can't really be a bad thing!

And there's the special happiness of getting to spend New Year's Eve with my family after five long years...and the fact that I've just published my 100th post (!) and completed my first year of blogging in earnest.

I'm a couple of degrees wiser, too! :) I've had my moments of truth and learnt a whole bunch of facts of myself, people, the universe and life in general. There's lots more to learn, and I can't wait to begin living the rest of my life...I inked some posts in my head in the last couple of weeks, but then, I also have my data card to consider. I think I'm my fair share of temperamental...but this little bit of hardware in my laptop could definitely teach me a thing or two about being moody.

Hmm...so I'll see you when I get back to Delhi. Till then, here's wishing us all the sort of year we'll look back on with a smile.

:)

"This can't be happening! Undo. UNDO!"

So I wrote a long, long post – about three pages, if not more - about my love of travelling and why I find train journeys particularly entertaining. I rambled about how we live slices of different lives as we travel through the country from one city to another. I talked about the joys of being address-less and unreachable. I rattled on about how humanity is at its quirkiest, idiosyncratic best when 72 random people are thrown together for 10-odd hours, sometimes more. And I wrote and wrote and wrote. And because I am compulsively neat and organized and a darned perfectionist, I had to justify the alignment of the paragraphs. Of course I did. How else could I rest easy? So I selected all the text, and then Murphy decided he needed entertainment, so my finger slipped and hit the spacebar.

And Blogger, which usually spends about a minute thinking things through when I want to save my work, promptly, efficiently went ahead on its own, and saved a draft that contained nothing. Not even a label.

If I didn't write about this, at least, I'd never get any sleep tonight. So think about me while I'm away - I'm going home for a few weeks :) - and I'll spend some time on the train thinking about the post that almost got published.

All I Ask

I'll believe with all my heart
till I break it believing;
and then I'll believe some more.

I'll keep all the faith
I can keep, and then some -
I'll keep it like never before.

I'll give it all I have
and do all I can,
and fulfil every arduous task...

I'll walk as far as it takes -
sunshine and rain don't matter
So long as I know where I'm headed.

I'll fight all the fears;
be as brave as I can
and face every demon I've dreaded.

I don't mind waiting
forever and for always.
A promise is all I ask.

Just thought I'd drop by...

Hey there...it's been a while. I'm back. Not back, really, just peeking in to say a quick hi because I missed my blog. Exams are on for another two weeks. In the last three days, I have taken papers in HR Planning & Selection and Training & Development. At this point in time, I can switch recruitment effectiveness parameters and training needs analysis basics no problem. It's all the same. Sounds the same, at least.

Anyway, I am here because I wanted to stop by. There were random streams of thought in my head that I'd put away to explore further here on Blogger...but Comp & Ben has a way of confusing the most sorted heads, and I am befuddled plenty. I still wanted to stop by.

So here I am, with nothing in particular to write about. I could write about how three friends and I just spent two and a half hours watching Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani, and how the movie is pure rubbish but we still had fun trying to see if we could sit through it to the end. I could write about how it feels to find yourself on the brink of growing up, with no excuses left to remain where you are. I could write about the ten different ideas I wake up with every morning on what to do with my life. I could write about the flute seller who roams the streets every day at twilight, playing music that tugs at every heartstring, but never getting more than a cursory glance (and how he plays on regardless, and it is evident that his music makes him happy – and us, too, though we never stop to admit it). I could, maybe, post some poetry I doodled on the back of my Training Models handout. Perhaps I could write about the surreal reality that is the preparation for the Commonwealth Games. Perhaps I could write about the long discussion (or argument, or both) that my roommate and I had the other day - Fitzwilliam Darcy or Rhett Butler? (I still say a blend of Darcy and Howard Roark...and Wodehouse's humour thrown in ;). I could, while we are on the topic, write about my first crush. Or I could begin rambling on one of my random fundamental theories in life.

But when your connection is choppy and your brain addled with labour laws, and sleep is playing peekaboo, it's never wise to begin one of your yarns. The whole point of this post was to say Hi. So hi there…and I’ll see you soon.

Blank.
Damn.
Unexpected happiness is so much sweeter.

But all happiness is nice :)

Meanwhile...

I was here two weeks ago. I am back now.

In between, there has been Satyam, predictions of lower inflation rates in March, extensive coverage of Delhi's efforts to spruce itself up for the Games, more Satyam, panic over internal examinations, collective relief that they seem to be on their way out, fluctuating fortunes for the IT sector, the world economy and India Inc., cricketing euphoria, some more Satyam, airfare slashes and sales that cause more gloom than cheer. All along, of course, a winter that wasn't quite the real thing.

All of which makes for a fairly interesting life. Back to the newspaper for me.

I'm glad!

Glad, that our Prime Minister is an economist!
